Step By Step Guide How To Make Hanging File Folders
Step #1: Have the necessary Materials
Buy and gather all the essential materials needed to make a hanging file folder such as scissors, paper, manila file folders, stapler, scrapbook, cardboard, glue, and ribbon. Choose the materials that have an extra inch on either side of the material from the normal sizes of 8 1|2 by 11 inches.
The larger the size of the material the easier it becomes during the folding process of the sheet paper. Cardstock and cardboard are the most durable materials for making file folders.
Step #2: Measure and Cut Materials
Choose your style, measure and cut the material according to the length of your desire. Cut one of the rectangles to10 by 12 inches and the other to 9 by 12 inches. However, expand the dimensions of the rectangle from 12 to 13 inches for easy folding of the edges on each side of the folder.
To obtain a folder with the exact shape and sizes of a traditional file, trace the shape of the folder on the underside of the material. The traced shape should be matching the smaller file folder to the smaller rectangle, and the larger file folder to the larger rectangle thus cut around the shape to obtain the two pieces.
Step #3: Glue the Cut Pieces
Fold and glue the pieces where you measure and mark a 1| 2-inch strip on the bottom of the 12-inch side of the smaller rectangle. Using a glue stick or super glue, place the paste along the outside flap of the folded inch. Thus repeat the same procedure for the larger side of the rectangle. In case of a sturdier material, place a ruler along the drawn line for easy tracing. Using a hard object such as a letter opener, gently press along the drawn line leaving an indention along the line. Markedly, this will enable easy folding, and the material will not crack.

Step #4: Finish the Folder
Finish the folder where once the glue has dried up fold the folder to close. However, an inch on the larger side of the rectangle should be left to show the underneath of the smaller side.
Cut along the top of the folder leaving out the flaps in all the areas except the designated tab area. Later add a label on the folder, add some files, and the folder will be done. At times the tabs on the traditional file folders vary in placement order depending on one’s decision. In case the cardstock does not come into the desired pattern, add patterned paper on the front of the file folder.
Once the folder is created, cut the paper about a half inch smaller than the original size of the folder on all sides. Glue the paper to the outside of the folder and center the paper in the middle part. The color of the folder will show along the edges, and the pattern will make the folder to pop.
Step #5: Decorate the Folder
Finally, add decorative elements to the file folder to make it presentable. Add stickers or decorative tape at the front of the folder and try crisscrossing the tape to make several designs. However, the tape may be used as the backing to your labels.
Also, glue the cutouts along the folder to add more designs on the materials and add objects such as buttons and bowls to the cover. Similarly, ink pads and stamps can be used to cover the areas with more decorative and personal touches. This ensures no addition of traditional bulk or elements that might fall off without the extended use.
Step #6: Finally, hang your file folders.
In conclusion, making a hanging file folder is very easy where no screwing work is required. File folders can be made in several designs with numerous decorations making them look presentable and unique. Spare some time and use these easy steps to make your file folders from the comfort of your home. No need on spending on file folders already on shopping shelves.
